Quantum Software Consortium

Symposium in honour of Gilles Brassard & Charles Bennett

Charles Bennett (IBM Research) and Gilles Brassard (Université de Montréal) were awarded the 2023 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, the worlds largest science prize, for their foundational work in quantum information.  In honour of this prize, we are organising a symposium at the KNAW (The Trippenhuis in Amsterdam) on 14 November 2022, from 19.00 –21.00, where both Gilles Brassard and Charles Bennett will speak.

Charles Bennett (IBM Research) and Gilles Brassard (Université de Montréal) share this prize with David Deutsch and Peter Shor. The event’s moderator is Harry Buhrman (University of Amsterdam and Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica).
Gilles Brassard - Wikipedia  Charles H. Bennett
In 1984, Gilles Brassard and Charles Bennett invented the ‘BB84’ protocol for quantum cryptography. This marks the birth of quantum cryptography. Their protocol takes advantage of fundamentalprinciples of quantum mechanics and enablessecure communication between parties. Nowadays, their protocol is commercially available and forms the core of many other protocols on quantum cryptography and quantum information in general.

Until November 2022, Brassard performs as ‘Turing Chair for Quantum Software’ at UvA, and he is hosted at QuSoft at NWO institute CWI.

Date: 14 November 2022, 19.00 – 21.00.
Venue: KNAW, The Trippenhuis, Kloveniersburgwal 29, 1011 JV Amsterdam

Moderator: Harry Buhrman
